Blue Chip Returns to Greenville With “Flash and Fury” on October 2nd

Blue Chip returns to Greenville, South Carolina, on Friday, October 2, with “Flash and Fury” at Zona VIP, bringing a deep lineup of local favorites, rising prospects and several fights that could have a real bearing on where fighters go next.

The centerpiece for the Greenville crowd will be the return of highly touted super welterweight prospect Khaliid “Rockstar” Johnson, who will fight in his hometown. Johnson has established himself as one of the region’s most closely watched young fighters, and his return gives the local crowd another opportunity to see the Greenville product in action.

Featherweight Roman Reyes is also set to return to the ring. A local favorite, Reyes has built a loyal following in Greenville and will be looking to make another impression when he steps back between the ropes.

One of the more intriguing matchups on the card pits all-action fighter “The Notorious” Julio Gomez against veteran Diuhl Olguin of Guadalajara, Mexico. Olguin represents arguably Gomez’s toughest test to date, giving the popular super featherweight fighter a veteran opponent with the experience to make him work for every round.

At lightweight, Rameses “El Tacmonita” Vargas takes on Francisco Rodriguez in a fight that could have significance beyond the result on October 2nd. Both fighters are looking to take the next step in their careers, making this a genuine crossroads fight. Vargas (8-2) and Rodriguez (10-1) have plenty of incentive to put on a performance, and the matchup has the ingredients to be one of the night’s better fights from both a competitive and entertainment standpoint.

Greenville will also get an in-state matchup when middleweights Quan “The Freak” Arnold and Nick Campbell square off. Both fighters are popular draws in the city, and putting two local attractions on opposite sides of the ring adds another layer to a fight that could very well steal the show.

Light heavyweight Emanuel “March Madness” March will return as he continues his climb up the rankings. March has quickly become one of the bigger crowd attractions on Blue Chip cards, and another strong performance would keep the Blair, South Carolina prospect moving in the direction he wants to go.

Charleston’s Nathan “The Ultimate” Threatt will make his first appearance in an eight-round bout against tough, battle-tested Antonio Dunton El. Threatt looked outstanding in his most recent outing and will now face a different kind of test as he moves into deeper waters. Dunton El represents a serious threat to the Charleston southpaw — no pun intended — and the longer distance should provide a useful measuring stick for where Threatt stands.

Also returning is lightweight prospect Keishawn “Kato” Horne of Durham, North Carolina, adding another unbeaten young fighter to an already crowded card.

For Blue Chip, “Flash and Fury” represents another return to one of its strongest markets, with Greenville fighters occupying a prominent place throughout the lineup. More importantly, the card isn’t built around one matchup. There are local rivalries, prospects facing meaningful tests, veterans looking to disrupt career plans and several fighters with something to prove.

That should make for a busy night in Greenville.
